Which Gutter Materials Should You Choose?

The two gutter materials that we offer are aluminum and copper gutters. A gutter system is an important investment in your home’s infrastructure, so it’s helpful to go into this decision with certainty about what you want.

Which Gutter Materials Should You Choose?

There are a few things to consider with either one of these gutter materials.

  • Aluminum gutters are usually cheaper and come in a wide variety of colors due to their enamel coating. They can also be installed into your home much more easily due to their light weight. That being said, aluminum gutters also have a handful of drawbacks. For one thing, they rust quicker, especially if the enamel coating isn’t properly maintained. They are also far more sensitive to quick changes in temperature or consistently hot temperatures.
  • Copper gutters have a charmingly refined look, last much longer, and are far more durable overall. This does, of course, come with a few drawbacks. Foremost among them is the price. Because other materials like aluminum might cause the copper to corrode or be otherwise damaged, every part of the system must be made fully out of copper. This can make the cost of materials far higher than their less finicky aluminum counterpart.

In the end, the decision of what gutter materials to use comes down to a matter of aesthetic preferences, willingness and ability to invest, and budget. If you want a longer-lasting gutter system, copper might be worth the expense. If you prefer the wider range of color options that aluminum provides, that may be the better decision.

Whatever you decide, though, we at Empire Gutters are ready to set you up with the gutter system you need.
